flapjack,
In case you did not know, the Cato Institute is a Libertarian Organization, and as such, they are against over taxation in any form including corporate taxes. Obviously, their philosophy is completely opposite of your viewpoint.

Did you even read the article before you posted it, or did you simply find something to post up? Btw, you should join Cato which you can do by going to their website to sign up. The fees vary depending on your level of involvement.

As for college choices why is it so inconceivable that your own and your parents' combined funding capacity may not add up to Yale, et al., even when you possess the requisite test scores and GPA? That's life. Happened to me when I was admitted to the University of Chicago Law School and couldn't attend because it cost approximately 70% more than other local Chicago JD programs.

There is no guarantee in the United States that one will be given the government funded resources to pursue your own definition of happiness or a fulfilling career with a prestigious degree. All we get is the opportunity to compete in a meritocracy. Or at least we may restore that level playing field if we can just manage to abandon the admission ratios imposed under the guise of affirmative action.

I agree with the Cato Institute. I also think that the corporate income tax is stupid. The issue is one of ending the attempt at tampering with the economy. The corporate income tax makes no sense.....

There are numerous scholarships and financial aid programs that allow most people to go to an appropriate university or college. If your kid is a National Merit Finalist, and is accepted at Yale, he almost certainly will go to Yale, under the current system.

By the way, the charge of "elitism", as you use it, is absurd. Neither of my parents went to college; after my parents were divorced, the child support was so little that we needed various forms of welfare aid; I went to an elite college only due to heavy financial aid, including both grants and loans, and partly worked my way through school; and even now, I live in a modest duplex, no garage, and bought my first brand- new car, a Honda Accord, only a couple of years ago. Your implication that I was economically advantaged at any point is false, and I am comfortable, but not wealthy, now. The sense in which I have affirmed that I am an elitist is that I believe in a meritocracy, understanding that there is always an irreducible element of luck........
