Great article. My feeling is such research is unethical. On the other hand, as a relativist, if the poor country won't get any treatment without the testing and will get SOME treatment with the testing (as well as this drug cheaper) who am I to make that risk calculus for them- having access, as I do, to excellent health care. The choice is that of the host country to make, imo. Any other conclusion would be inconsistent with my beliefs.

Of course our country could choose to disregard the evidence of the study because it was unethical. But I don't see the utility in that either.
