Wrong again. P4 has 20K L1 cache. 8K + 12K

Scumbria,

How can you force someone to use a bigger die size?

Athlon uses silicon efficiently, unlike the the other chip. (170mm2 with only an 8K L1 cache.)

Offer features that take up silicon that your competitor has to match. For example 512 or even 1024K of L2 for mainstream desktop line could force AMD to match it. At some point, AMD will have match SSE-2, costing some die space.

Joe

PS: What's 170 mm2? I thought P4 was 217 mm2. Is it P4 with local interconnect?
