Skeeter, You are correct in that Amazon is not able to turn a profit. It has nothing to do with their intentions of doing so. The model is not viable and never has been. I stated that initially and have never wavered fromt that position as I believe you have stated. I was reading your reasoning and was going to disagree with one issue until I saw you mentioned "satisfactory service." It is this part of your post: "i go with the best price and satisfactory service." The value a retailer adds to a product is service. That is it. The service comes in various forms such as information, delivery, selection, repair, etc. Information has become less of a factor due to the internet. Those that are comfortable on the internet can obtain as much information or education about a product as they wish. There is a tradeoff between the work to do so or having the retail provide it to them but the end result is the same. The internet has reduced gross margins for retailers. Technology, however, has permitted many retailers to still retain a similar net margin for those that use technology correctly. Retailing net margins have always been relatively small. Amazon has so many problems they are too many to mention although I did make a fairly involved post a few days ago about that issue. Amazon's problem from the beginning was not having retailing talent if one wants to sum it up. The company is such a mess now that salvage is impossible. I realize some will disagree but this is not just an opinion in my mind. My mind states it is a fact and there is no way out anymore. Glenn
