Of course, my Compaq came with backup software which would not allow CD backups! So I bought Veritas Disaster Recovery (download) because I didn't trust the Compaq SystemSave or QuickRestore - I have a dead PC as a consequence of trusting Compaq already. Anyway, I experienced the blue screen of death early on with my new system and tried to restore the system using SystemSave. Of course, it didn't work. I called Compaq for assistance and I got the usual lamer and finally I just asked to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. This guy said SystemSave wouldn't help because of some problem and that I should use QuickRestore - which would wipe away everything I'd done for months! That's when I told the guy that thankfully, as an experienced Compaq owner, I didn't trust their software and had installed and also backed-up using Veritas Disaster Recovery. The guy warned me not to use the Veritas software and basically said it would wreck the system. I didn't see how and told him that Veritas is renown for its fine software, unlike Compaq and its crapware, and that I would do what made sense. Veritas worked great and restored the system to perfect order. DO NOT TRUST COMPAQ. I repeat DO NOT TRUST COMPAQ. In my experience, their backup/restore software is the worst - I must have a dozen or so system restore CD's from my previous Compaq, all revisions. What a nightmare. Compaq tech support is hit or miss. Usually miss - though the forums are ok. That said, everything has worked fine for months and I have the system backed up with Veritas at four different dates if anything happens. The CD backups using Disaster Recovery are quick and flawless. The software tests the result after each new backup. Thank you Veritas!
