The report doesn't say how it was commissioned but it just includes
NTAP vrs. EMC in Oracle database environments. Probably NTAP
had this report done as a result of the Oracle deal, to offer
market information during the deal or to use for closing sales
after the deal.

I don't think this report is as important as Oracle's
decision to standardize on NTAP systems for their ASP
database business:

1. Oracle is ground-zero for database technology and chose
NTAP as their database ASP storage provider.

2. Oracle uses EMC equipment and certainly has satisfied
themselves that NTAP equipment is a better choice than
EMC's Symmetrix, EMC's Celerra, EMC's IP-4700 or even EMC's
Clariion storage offerings for this application.

3. Oracle is obviously concerned about price/performance
but also service/availability since it is an ASP business and
obviously believes in the support services and 24x7 capabilities
of NTAP's offerings.

Oracle recognizes that they are not only "betting the
business" on NTAP, they are also "sending a signal" of
what they've found between two vendors and who they
favor for their database software. How much stronger
a validation of technology does one require?

I think this report provides more data and maybe an
eye into what drove Oracle's decision by showing the
experiences of other Oracle database customers, but I
don't think it is more important than Oracle's choice
of NTAP equipment.

Of course, I may be totally confused! :)
