Well folks, here is the answer to our energy problems:

(drumroll please):

The National Energy Security Act (just introduced)

senate.gov

Sponsors claim this will reduce reliance on oil imports to 50%. Hard to see how, though. It's 325 pages of tidbits with no meat on 'em. It's not a energy plan at all. No new taxes on consumption, no real credits for exploration.

Your margin story reminds me of a fellow I met on the AAPL board. As the stock ran from $17.00 to $75.00 he played it on margin and short term options and made a bundle. Enough to quit work, move to a new city and buy a home. Life was good.......except he waited a little too long and literally lost it all. I also went thru the 1998-1998 oil/gas collapse. Makes one a little more cautious.
