TOKYO (Nikkei)--TurboLinux Japan KK, the developer and marketer of TurboLinux software, and SGI Japan Ltd. will tie up in development, technical support and sales to expand corporate use of Linux-installed SGI servers, the two companies announced Tuesday.

TurboLinux and the Japanese subsidiary of California-based Silicon Graphics Inc. will cooperate in developing next-generation Linux servers based on the Intel Architecture-64 using Intel Corp.'s Itanium processors, due out in the first half of this year.

SGI Japan has already adopted TurboLinux operating system for some of its products.

TurboLinux has certified SGI 1450 and 1200 servers as fully compatible with its operating system. SGI is seeking similar validation from TurboLinux for its Silicon Graphics 230/330/550 models of workstations.
