I guess it depends on your perspective. Optical networking, networking and Fiber optic components stocks have the bottom 3 ranks in IBD's stock ranking of 197 categories. I remember a couple of years ago when Noam screwed shareholders to the wall by not warning. I doubt if he's learned anything since, given his propensity to utilize this bs quiet period to remain silent on 100% of the company.knc

Sector, is this a positive for MRVC?

ShanDong ZiBo Telecom installs Marconi optical technology; a first
for Marconi

ShanDong ZiBo Telecom, part of China Telecom, in the municipality of Zibo, a major industrial center
in ShanDong province in eastern China, is slated to install 10 Gbit/s optical technology from Marconi
to increase the capacity of its networks. The contract is Marconi's first in China at this capacity.
ShanDong ZiBo Telecom awarded the contract after a highly competitive tender, choosing Marconi
ahead of the other global players in the provision of core transmission systems. Marconi, a supplier
of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission systems-the technology that lies at the heart
of ShanDong ZiBo Telecom's network-will supply its switching equipment during the first few
months of 2001.
The new project maintains an existing link between Marconi and ShanDong Zibo Telecom, Marconi
having designed and installed 2.5 Gbit/s SDH equipment several years ago. The new infrastructure
will increase the capacity of the fibre ring around Zibo, enabling rapid expansion of its 1.4 million
telephony subscriber base among the city's four million population.
The contract covers the supply of 10 Gbit/s MSH64 SDH switching products and comprehensive
system management to upgrade the network. Marconi will also train engineers from ShanDong ZiBo
Telecom and support the installed equipment through a service contract.
