joe is not a journalist, he is just some guy who posts on SI. It is true that one ought to be careful that there is no confusion, but sloppiness is not the same as lying. There was a fellow who used to accuse political opponents of lying whenever he caught them in a miststatement, even those that are readily attributable to misrecollection or other error. It is a bad habit.

I've been quoted in the newspaper at least twice and they NEVER got it right. They ended up putting stuff in quotes that I never said using words I never used. This actually cause me a problem in college.

I started life as a journalism major and this was NEVER considered appropriate. I consider it journalistic incompetence. The sad thing is that these were not your 'local rags' but major LA papers.

IMO, if you are paraphrasing, you must say so. Maybe in nonfiction or history books you can get away with this kind of behavior, but not in a debate, discussion or journalism.

I don't quote people unless I get it right. That's why I'm in the habit of snipping their words and italicizing them. There is no ambiguity about who said what to whom when you do that. It is just common courtesy and intellectually honest. If I misquoted someone, then at the very least I should apologize and correct my mistake.

Your problem is you ignore content and madly attack words. I believe the words you are attacking are "sentient" and "truly alive". Those words were being commonly tossed about in some earlier manifesto peddled about by your chums. I was under the impression you were up to date with the thread. I'm sorry if you required a primer to read this thread. Regarding you other issue, the other thread header clearly stated anyone could post, anyone except me as it turned out.

Remember E, an honest woman's respected everywhere, she is honored, satisfied with herself and feels new-born when she can go to bed and say:"Today I've played the game again!" I realize real life is shocking to you but that is not my fault.

If you need help reading and writing there is a wonderful book called "The Reader over Your Shoulder" by Graves & Hodge. Best of luck E! I realize a book store might not want to sell it to you, therefore, here is some free advice lanka.com
