pc, it is only useless if you don't like the number. otherwise, it tells you that people are spending more than they take in (take in $100, spend $101). while 401ks may sustain this during bubble markets, if those 401ks blow up (bear markets) then those folks will have to save even more money to make up for the losses. goodbye loose money from negative savings rates. saved money means less money to keep the economy going. not what you want to hear, but those are the facts as i sees 'em...
