Hi JS, Interesting point. I watch book value growth more closely than I do earnings for most companies. That and revenue growth. It's been my thought that if revenues and book value are growing, then eventually earnings will come, too. (sometimes by management surgery and sometimes through good business practices)

However, in the case of "old tech" telecos some of those assets in the BV could, as you say, "be written off over the next few years, because their real value (that is, their ability to produce profits in the future) is zero..."

Time to look deeper into the spreadsheets of these companies.
