Link in Samam post below "There were renewed rumours that Ministry of Information Industry chief Wu Jichuan might be forced to step down due to pressure from Premier Zhu Rongji, and these added fuel to the slump in the two Chinese cellular operators' prices. Rumours suggested there were divergent views in the development of the mainland's telecom industry between Mr Wu and Mr Zhu, with Mr Zhu favouring opening up the industry for competition to stimulate growth, while Mr Wu believes in a monopolistic stance in which China Telecom could improve its penetration. Khan, Here are some data about BTS capacity. Ericy RBS, 160 channels per carrier on 3 sector ericsson.se NT Metro Cell, 576 channels nortelnetworks.com LU, microcell, 40 channels per sector lucent.com

3 million CSM channels / 110 CSM channels per base * $150K per base = $4.09 billion 3 million CSM channels / 110 CSM channels per base * $70K per base = $1.9 billion This yields over 27,000 BTS. Just for reference sake, I think I remember that Sprint PCS has 12,000 BTS to cover the entire US. I don't know how Sprint's network would compare with Unicom's but I would think that Sprint's is significantly bigger that the initial one proposed by Unicom. If my understanding is correct then I think you could cut that cost by a factor of 2 or 3. microe
