Remember the Weinberger pardon? Seems you and the other Dems got it all wrong.

Boyden Gray was on Fox tonight and explained that the Weinberger pardon was done six weeks before Bush left office. It was done because Walsh's indictment was a joke - and the Dems agreed. The same indictment had already been thrown out.

The Speaker of the House and the head of the Armed Services Committee signed off on it - and so did other Democrats.

The pardon went through the Justice Department and it was supported by 400 pages of documentation.

Leaving aside Clinton's pardons for cash, in stark contrast stands the Susan McDougal deal. Beth Nolan today testified that she thought that was the most egregious act in the Clinton pardons scandal.

Clinton had promised the public that there would be no McDougal pardon when asked by reporters why she refused to speak. McDougal spent many months in jail rather than answer a few questions despite the Judge's grant of full immunity. McDougal wouldn't answer questions about things like a $5,000 check she had written that said in the memo "payoff to Clinton".

I suspect we will be hearing more about the McDougal pardon that Clinton said never would happen.
