My guess is that:
1) They are accessing the high yield bond market because they can. The market is as good as it has ever been for the players in the oilpatch. Access to that kind of money, with that kind of debt load and strong fundamentals makes it something they should do.
2) An acquisition will follow not too far down the road. Don't know what they might buy in the States but it gives them enough fire power to make an entrance into the Canadian market. They have been getting lots of air miles in and out of Calgary of late.
