Hey mark ...

thanks for listing the tech forum site, as I was going to ask for it ......ggggg

I read down through it for several dozen questions and it appears to be a nice place ...

When MzNemer and I were down in Austin for our son's birthday last weekend I opened up his Dell *(how bout that, him living in Austin and owning a Dell ....gggggg) .. so I would make sure and duplicate his HD and mem sticks.
That is what we gave him for his present ...
would you believe that Dell does NOT have a store open (that we could find) on Sat ...
so
used your Crucial site and ordered two sticks of 256 meg RAM and a Western Digital 60G 7200 rpmHD from PC Nation ....

As I've said in the past, I have ordered the past four or five times on memory purchases from First Choice, but the Crucial
"mem finder/box matcher" works great .... even tho it does cost a lil more ....
hey ... my kids ALWAYS get better stuff than do I ..... LOL

He is waaaaaay into photgraphy of skydiver people ... does it every weekend and the added mem and more HD will make it easier/faster for him to edit/produce his shots .....

I've been reading with interest the ongoing discussion about the multiple HDs and the multiple controllers ....

I knew he would be right at "FULL" with a factory Dell and two HDs, one CD and one CDRW ...
that is what I'd discovered at least ...
had I known he was going to get this far ... I'd suggested, and bought a Scuzi .... especially after the fine discussion here on the thread this week .....
they have gotten CHEAP lately, or at least cheap compared to where they were the last time I bot any ....

I will add my 2centavos as far as my usage in the past on the speed, etc of IDE and Scuzi ....
the IDE, even with 3 HDs works so fast that I've not noticed in my regular usage .. ANY slow down on one channel or one cable or two using two masters and a slave ...
but
with his demands on a system, I'll bet that a Scuzi would've been better ...

heck, I could've brought his IDE home and he could've had 2 Scuzis .... ggggg
that is just what I need ... a 60G HD ...
that WOULD make me intall virus protection and you could remove me from the half catagory .......lol

thanks again ..

Nemer

Two hard disks, one or two controllers, and one or two cables...

One thing I didn't mention, and feel I should've, was DMA, or Direct Memory Access, if your system supports it, should be enabled. No point in sending data through the processor if it doesn't need processing. I envision data running from one disk to the other without interruption: sort of like a pipe running between two tanks as opposed to a guy running back and forth with a pail.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. It's starting to look like I'm doing little more than splitting hairs here, or even splitting split ends.
