He told me that I had to think about quiting
smoking (my only real vice). He actually said, you are ok now, but in the next few years you must seriously consider it if you want to live
long time.

That's excellent advice. After you've smoked for a while, you don't need the surgeon-general to tell you that you're doing yourself no favor. Smoking has been statistically linked to over 100 diseases. And your major risk from smoking is not lung cancer, as many people think (although that's pretty awful), but heart attack.

It changes your life. Simple things you used to do and not even think about now become major problems. Like, how do I get that 50 pound bag of dog chuck out of the trunk? Hmmm, buy 25 pounds bags next time.
Yeah. Believe me, I know this part.

I did gain one thing from it.. I didn't do it for myself, but now I understand why some people sue. I am still against it for the most part, but a fair level of compensation for someone's error seems acceptable to me.
Maybe you should reconsider if it's not too late.. There are definitely a lot of stupid lawsuits, and too many of them are won. But sueing to recover compensation for medical costs and injuries resulting from someone else's gross stupidity isn't the same thing.

Good luck to you, too, Hang in there, give it some time, and you'll eventually be OK.
