Pete, The true cause of the deficit is when the Government fails to collect as much revenue as it spends. It is the obligation of the CEO (President) to make sure that those are kept in balance. You can argue that the spending is excessive, but that is a different discussion. It is not an excuse for fiscal irresponsibility by Reagan or Bush or Bush. The fact that you are unable to differentiate between the two explains your confusion. Imagine a CEO who said "It's OK that we are losing money, because some other guys in the company are spending too much." Scumbria
