DMA: Your class assignment today is to compare and contrast the Rich pardon involving President Clinton and the Armand Hammer pardon involving President Bush Sr.

Here's a little background on the case: In 1972, a Hammer operative gave $54,000 in laundered hundred-dollar bills to Nixon fund-raiser Maurice Stans for use in the Watergate coverup. Questioned by the FBI and a Senate committee, Mr. Hammer lied about the money. But his flunkies crumbled under questioning. In 1975, Mr. Hammer pleaded guilty to three counts of making illegal campaign contributions. He spent the rest of his life campaigning for a pardon, which President Bush granted in 1989.

I believe you will find in both cases one could make the case -- in your own words -- that "the appropriate response is outrage (word in bold) that a super rich bastard was able to buy his freedom (or substitute "honor" or another appropriate term) from the President of the United States."

You and the other right-wing bashers on this board need to do a little more homework on the pardons of Hammer, Weinberger, et al. before you pull a "Dan Burton" and point fingers of indignation in my direction.

Have a nice day.
