K6 was doing very well for AMD until they encountered first a yield crash, then later the chip stopped scaling

Let me nit-pick. The yield crash came because AMD was forced to push K-6 way past it's natural top clock rate. K-6 was not designed with MHz in mind.

P4 is outperformed by Athlon on both integer and floating point, using "internet content creation" as a proxy for floating point and "business productivity" as a proxy for integer apps.

Isn't the fact that the AMD 1.2 machine listed there has 256M of RAM whereas no P4 machine listed at that site has more than 128M relevant?
