semiconeng,

They tried promoting AMD BIG TIME, at intel's expense, and they fell on their face. Now that they woke up, and fired that fool who led them astray, maybe they'll have a chance..... Maybe.

What are you talking about? They never promoted AMD. I noticed AMD mentioned maybe in 1 commercial (out of many). They bought AMD when they couldn't buy enough Intel parts. They showed AMD based parts prominently, when they couldn't get enough Intel parts, and when Intel parts were hopelessly outgunned.

When the demand collapsed (Q3), Intel supply improved, and Intel was finally able to ship 1 GHz. Gateway got back in the bed with Intel. This period of time coincides with the time when Gateway fell flat on its face. Late Q3 through today.

You should get your facts straight.

Now let's look what this new relationship with Intel is doing to Gateway. Stock: siliconinvestor.com

Let's see what the new P4 is doing for Gateway:
Shares of personal computer maker Gateway Inc. (NYSE:GTW - news) sank on Thursday, the day after the company forecast a first-quarter loss and said it had lost focus on its customers.

Selling P4 can definitely cause you to lose touch with your customers. They will not show up.

While I was searching for Gateway news, I found out what the P4 sales are doing to to the loyal ho (Dell), who knows who the boss is:

Semi, Well, you may feel you are correct in your assessment of GTW strategy, however I do not agree with your assessment.
GTW failed the same way CPQ failed. Both did not adhere strictly to the Dell model.
The dell model is to do one thing to perfection. You see no dell stores that lose money on their own and also ruin the mail order business by 6-7% in most states. In todays environment 6-7% is a huge amount, it is fully equal to a wholesale tier....and dell does not have it.
In addition when you sell to the civilians that buy AMD then that 6-7% makes an even bigger difference as those people are the cheapest of all and readily switch for a few % difference. Some want the better performance of AMD and those clients are growing as we speak.
As for them firing the wrong person for the wrong reasons, well Intel has done that too.
One day GTW will realize this and sell products based on AMD parts as well as Intel parts.
Secondly you have supplied direct evidence that Intel applies coercion...."pissed off their supplier".
The FTC wants to know this kind of stuff, this means Intel makes threats to GTW and they responded, and this also means that dell is kept in line the same way.
