<<As for wondering what the other drivers are thinking, I admit I often do, and sometimes say to myself "What were you thinking?", after witnessing some particularly creative manoeuvre.>>

I've found that looking at the front tires gives you an edge. Ie, no turn signals but the wheels are turned left. Ie, the front wheels aren't turning but the car is still moving, they ain't gonna stop. Ok, sometimes looking at the driver is better, like they are slumped over dead.

Once on a two lane state highway a car coming at me just moved into my lane. I had a 4x4 Suburban and did a ditch move, going into the ditch and back onto the road. The lady driving was wide awake and stared at me the whole time. Eerie. Either a suicide attempt or her cheating husband drove a Suburban.
