May I point out that rich SOBs have created a market for BMW and Mercedes SUVs. What a wise way to waste energy, pollute the atmosphere, and support global warming. This is far wiser than Head Start or School Lunch programs.

Cary, How ludicrous? The vast majority of SUVs are American or Japanese made and owned by middle income types. If you added up all these vastly rich SOBs, they would probably amount to 0.001% of personal energy consumption.

I've heard GWB state his opinion on education in almost every speech. He claims it is a priority for his administration, as opposed to socialized heath care or gays in the military.
On education, too many American children are segregated into schools without standards, shuffled from grade to grade because of their age, regardless of their knowledge. This is discrimination, pure and simple, the soft bigotry of low expectations. And our nation should treat it like other forms of discrimination: We should end it. One size does not fit all when it comes to educating our children, so local people should control local schools. And those who spend your tax dollars must be held accountable. When a school district receives federal funds to teach poor children, we expect them to learn. And if they don't, parents should get the money to make a different choice. Now is the time to make Head Start an early learning program to teach all our children to read and renew the promise of America's public schools.

Was there any improvement in test scores or education in general under Clinton's watch? NO!

And as far as taxing rich SOBs goes, didn't the democratic party lose the high ground when Clinton pardoned a billionaire tax dodger who renounced his US citizenship and traded oil with Iran, while Iran held US citizens hostage.

Go figure.

Cary,

May I point out that rich SOBs have created a market for BMW and Mercedes SUVs

The SOB's you are referring to are people like you or I; why do you insist on labeling anyone who has money as an SOB? I do not really follow your logic here.

BMW and Mercedes SUVs. What a wise way to waste energy, pollute the atmosphere, and support global warming.

Have you ever seen how much energy this thing called the internet we are now on is using? Something like 3%-4% of the total energy usage and growing fast. Do you realize how much energy the server farms utilize? When you look look closely, you(read Cary) are one of the biggest problems when considering polluting the atmosphere since you are on these message boards often. Before criticizing others, first look at what you can do to make a positive change.

From the sound of your postings, you have not looked too hard.

Brian

First I thought the fall of the USSR made this discussion moot?

May I point out that rich SOBs have created a market for BMW and Mercedes SUVs. What a wise way to waste energy, pollute the atmosphere, and support global warming. This is far wiser than Head Start or School Lunch programs.

Lets see. Perhaps all the people trying to invent new drugs to extend life, cure AIDS, cure cancer, cure... your favorite disease..., should all make the same decision I made.......

They might ask what I asked myself: "Why the hell work hard and give up the best years of your life so you can give half of it to the damn government if you are successful?"

I was only working on the stuff to make fiber optic networks faster so it won't really bother many that it might take just a bit longer to read your email without my contribution but what if thousands that reach a level of wealth that they are comfortable with decide they really don't need to go from some level of dollars to 10 times that?

I think a society wants to do all it can to keep these smart, productive people working. Higher taxes on their successes doesn't do this. Of course, you think Rand is a nut and that China will succeed where Cuba and the USSR have failed, but you are in a minority.
