Re: "Intel may be in an interesting situation when if it is forced to compete with it's most powerful chips with Athlon in Dual space."

That's where you and the AMDroids completely miss the point.

A large L2 cache provides enormous system throughput improvements in SMP systems - ENORMOUS - by reducing traffic on the main memory bus.

By virtue of its failure to increase the L2 cache beyond 256 K, AMD will be at a great technological disadvantage - and have to sell its CPUs at a huge discount to Intel's large L2 CPUs.

Ergo, AMD may - assuming they can even get a functional SMP system to market - pick up a low end design win from the "I'll buy-anything-from-anybody-if-it-isn't-Intel" crowd.

Any serious server vendor, however, will spend many, many months evaluating new hardware - and with a Brand New platform - CPU/Chip Set/MotherBoard/Memory/Drivers/Applications - my guess is 6 to 9 months are in order.

Re: "How can Intel charge more for the same chip when it goes to 4way box? "

Because AMD WILL NOT have a 4-way system !!!

They have already GIVEN UP on that for the 760MP - or have you forgotten that?

Intel will still have ZERO competition in the 4-way and 8-way x86 SMP server market.
