Has anyone bothered to benchmark a 1.3GHz P4 versus a 1.2GHz Athlon with PC2100 DDR? TO say that the two are comparable...

Probably because someone at Tom's Hardware Germany ran amok. <g> Too bad that the article is only in German (so far) -- it's a very entertaining read. And I thought Van Smith was biased...

AMD needs a PR rating on their Athlon processors. They are throwing money down the toilet by letting Intel play the low IPC MHz game.

It's all about MHz and we know how that sells (TM)...
1.2 and 1.3 are pretty close. That's how the average buyer sees it. They know little of absolute performance.

The guy who wrote the article had the consumer mentality.
