HG we agree but lets take it a step further lets make the parents responsible also especially if they are the ones that probably caused the problem..
We have an interesting court case going on in Florida.. Lionel Tate he power slammed a 6 year old girl and killed her..
The defense said it was pro Wrestling's fault..
The Prosecutor offered 2nd degree with 18 months in jail.. The Mom (a law enforcement official) turned it down and the kid got life..
Now all the liberals are crying like heck saying the boy doesn't deserve to do life..
What should we do??Pat him on the back and say next time be careful???
Meanwhile Lionel is behaving very badly in prison...fighting cursing causing all kinds of problems..
Maybe they will blame the other kids for that..<g>

I would give up a little of my freedom to live in a crime free society....wouldn't you ?

Not saying that there are no problems living in ME. Just that crime is not one of them !

A little bit of freedom, yes....a lot of freedom, no.

The problem with the more strictly anti-crime states is that they get too carried away with law and order. Sure, Singapore's streets are clean and no one leaves gum wrappers around, but do I want to risk getting 40 lashes when I don't properly dispose of my Puppy Chow packaging?

I think we need to hold people accountable but not get so carried away that we live in a police state. What I don't agree with is making excuses for these kids based on their childhoods or their brain chemistry or whatever. Excuses breed more bad behavior; they teach us that we are not in control, so we might as well not even bother trying to control our behavior.

IMHO.....

<stepping down off soapbox now>

HG...one of the problems here in the USA is the cheap access to GUNS and the MEDIA presenting stuff we couldn't even imagine when we were kids

When we were kids you couldn't see an R rated movie loaded with violence unless you did so at the theater with parents in tow. No one I knew would ever think of taking their kids to an r rated movie...yet today many kids see these types of things due to cable and the lack of adult supervision. One of the problems I run into in my "adult" life is that I want to limit my friends to people who agree closely with what I believe is right and wrong when it comes to children. I have distanced myself from many old friends due to their lack of follow through, etc when it comes to kid's. Vacations where the goal is for the parents to get loaded while the kids do whatever they want are all too common these days.

Lazy parents...I believe that this is the heart of the problem these days with kids. I know it's not popular to spank or use any type of corporal punishment...but....schools desperately need this tool back in order to keep the semi-rotten kids from getting fully rotten..

IMO
