Because you don't follow specific rules doesn't make you a hypocrite....You clearly have the privilege to be any degree of vegetarian that you choose.

<<am concerned for the envoronment so I do do the following
- recycle
- fuel efficient cars
- energy efficient thermostats>>

I would say that "concern " for the environment is a matter of degree.

The things you do are good but of course we know that they are fairly easy and make you feel good.

I'm sure that you understand that with each new child all is negated......Think about it.

Each will drive a car, need a home, food, utlize probably hundreds of gallons of fresh water every week, creat tons of garbage and pollution in his or her lifetime etc, etc. Many acres of what would be wild lands will be put into production to accomplish this.

Of course you know that there is a limit on what the planet can handle with regards to these demands.....Some day we will be forced to deal with this.

I believe that we should each show responsibility and limit our breeding to two children.....As opposed to suggesting that since our DNA is superior others should limit their family size.....

Or were you implying that five children per family for all will pose no threats to the environment as long as we recycle etc. ?

There's a lot of wisdom in the Orthodox fasting rules. For example, the prohibition against shellfish is extremely sound, since not only do they scoop up all sorts of toxins, but even cooked shellfish are also carriers of viral and bacterial infections.

I only got food poisoning once in my life, about 15 years ago, and it was after eating a seafood platter (fried clams and such). That did it for me :)
