During the last pres election in Haiti, there were about 19 candidates to start with. By the date of the election, 11 had been mudered, most of them with machetes.

perhaps we should outlaw machetes and anyhing else sharp throughout the world.

That probably goes for, your spouse, children, parents,
grand parents, uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, brothers
and sisters ... It was very effective.

I don't believe it is carried out nowadays.
