I don't think it would play like that. At worst (if Slick claimed unlimited pardon power), the answer is "OK, you have unlimited pardon power, but you have no power to accept bribes; in fact, that is specifically mentioned in the Constitution as grounds for impeachment. Up against the wall and put your hands behind your back. You have the right to remain silent...."

It may not have been illegal for Clinton to accept a bribe for giving a pardon, if he did (which we don't know yet). But would it have been illegal for the person seeking a pardon to offer or give a bribe to get a pardon, if any did?

I don't know. Do you?
