The times, they are a changing> <GGGG>

NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile phone carrier, which will be the first in the world to
offer W-CDMA 3G services this May, said it had no plans to delay that launch.

However, Kohji Ohboshi, DoCoMo chairman, said on Tuesday that the roll-out of HDR, a
competing 3G technology developed by Qualcomm of the US, could force DoCoMo to re-think
its 3G service's cost structure.

"There is a possibility that Qualcomm's HDR will offer good value. We have to watch HDR
very closely and depending on how that unfolds, we will have to take measures to reduce
our costs," Mr Ohboshi noted.

In contrast to W-CDMA, which requires Japanese carriers to completely rebuild their
infrastructure, HDR offers high speeds on existing CDMA infrastructure.

KDDI, which aims to start offering HDR services at the end of next year, has said it will only
have to invest between 50 per cent and 70 per cent of what W-CDMA carriers will need to
spend to offer high-speed 3G services.

OT: JohnG.

Is your problem really that you hope to trust "some genius
up there"??

On the same hand it matches the Q-hype pretty well
(Btw, has Dr J's IQ been published??? or some
IJQ-index of Q in general?? he at least found
something positive in a mensa membership, according
to one urban legend))

As well as the fear for stumbling fools scrambling
in the latest self-proclaimed-genius direction??
(which sometimes provides good hunting grounds
for the cool ones)

(OT) Ha, ha. Umm, the fact that I was born in arguably the most capitalistic society in the world (no it aint the US) wouldn't enter the equation, no?

As even you have worked out, there might not be the great game plan (as also promoted by Qcom in the past) but more a case of commericial realities (read: economies of scale) and opportunities (note: little to do with superior technology, but it does sometimes help).

You added so much value to the discussion that I wanted to have that I have to wonder who is supplying your material that you are posting or are you my most favoured nemesis "LaFraud" in disguise?

The similarity is there alright: only using approved positive Qcom propaganda and couldn't possibly add anything of your own tuition. Sorry, I meant add something of value to the discussions.

Now I am not having a go at your intelligence, really I am not, but I thought that this was the Nokia thread. No, I am certain as it is right above where I am writing now. Qcom does not influence Nokia a great deal, but I do understand that Nokia can influence Qcom one heck of a lot. So, can I suggest writing more Nok oriented statements on Qcom threads and not Qcom on this one.

Now I am not so opposed to Qcom as some people would think, but the complete airhead posts (bit like forced religion) that i have seen need to have something to give it balance...otherwise we might just as well turn the clock back to 1937/8 and invade Poland. There are some great posters out there that I do not see eye-to-eye with, but certainly value their thoughts and even the ocassional "hand bags at dawn" squables we have had.

And to them thanks for adding infinite value and wisdom.

To the others, try to aspire.....
