Kash,

I don't think people owning guns is the problem. I think people WANTING to own guns is the problem. There should be no perceived need to own a gun, other than perhaps sport hunting. But there is this perceived need to own a gun. As for the constitution the right to bare arms was so that citizens of the US could defend the country should the King of England have come knocking. Not much of a real threat anymore, and perhaps the single largest mistake in the constitution.

Now, before any goes all ballistic on me (pardon the pun), let me say that I don't think guns should be outlawed. In fact I despise most laws, period. What I'm saying is having it explicitily in the Constiution is pointless. I mean I don't see anything in the constitution about owning a horse!!!..

The US is supposed to be the land of the free, etc., etc., but the very fact you have that entry in teh constitution proves that it's not. There should only be one entry in that damned thing: All people are created equal, and are to be treated as such. End of story. (IMHO).

Regards,

Steve

Guns are used to defend as well as to aggressively attack and murder. Also there have been a lot of guns in the
US for a long time but murder rates were much lower in the past. I think the problem is more a lack of concern
for human life and with the consequences of taking it then it is the number of guns. What can be done about this
lack of concern is a good question that I wish I had a good answer to.
