Joe, it seems like you don't like the 1st generation of any CPU family, and with good reason, too:

1) Pentium Pro, with the short-lived dual-die package and Socket 8
2) Covington Celeron with no L2 cache and performance slower than Pentium MMX
3) First version of Athlon with the short-lived Slot A package and off-chip cache

Based on this, I don't see why you should like the first version of Pentium 4. I'm sure once you see future, more cost-effective versions of Pentium 4, you'll come to realize how brilliant the design really is. (And the AMDroids will still find a bone to pick.)
