Bill: fyo, I would expect that such sampling would indeed be limited to those people who would have the ability to use it. mobo makers and major OEMs first and when mobos are in the channel a wider audience. If the chip is additionally intended for the single CPU server market(large cache etc) then that would increase the sampling group.

What is AMD's initial target for the Clawhammer?

I thought it was meant as a fairly direct successor of the Athlon - with a somewhat expanded reach (workstations / servers). Since AMD have repeatedly stated that they intend to take the K7 core to .13mu in the form of Appaloosa and Tbred, my perception could well be wrong. Is AMD aiming at the workstation market first? With the intent of letting the Clawhammer go to highend-mid desktop range only upon the arrival of Sledgehammer a quarter later?

Can anyone shed some light on this?
