manalagi, i don't wait for bottoms. i buy cheap. i find it funny managements are genius when stocks go up and they are bad when they go do. they are the same folks!

stocks are down b/c expectations were absurd (check hat, pick up crayon). your second reason is correct. the govt productivity / new economy lie can't be made into truth no matter how much they want it. i expect earnings to continue to deteriorate - not good when pes are still in the historical stratosphere.

as i said, don't buy stocks looking for a bottom. buy value. if you can't make a cogent argument for fiscal value in a company then don't buy it - otherwise, you take excessive risk.
