You did the right thing. The cat could've been just a cat. It could've been a child's pet. Or it could've been a member of a family who would've worried and grieved for ages. You never know.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. I once opened the wood stove door and my two eyes looking in met one looking out. Turns out a black squirrel inside a sooty wood stove isn't easy to see. Once outside, we noticed a nicked ear we could identify him with. We saw that squirrel around our property for a year or so after.

What a great story, crow.

One of the best cats I ever had came via an 18 wheeler from Louisiana. My father-in-law worked for Burnham Van Services in the office here. One of the truckers knew he liked animals and showed up in his office with this teeny little black kitten. She couldn't have been more than 4 weeks old...not weaned yet. She had ridden on the motor under the hood from Louisian to Georgia! The driver said he kept hearing a tiny meow but couldn't seem to locate it. He lifted the hood and there she was!

Sweetest little thing....coal black with long hair. I named her Cajun! She use to sit on my shoulder and "nurse" at my ear! Unfortunately, she also came to us with Feline Leukemia and we only had her about a year.
