Haqihana: First of all, thanks for the kind things you said about me. You are a true "compassionate conservative."

A good place to start, in my opinion, is an examination of the "gun culture" that is so prevalent in this country today. Bang-bang. Let's solve all of our problems by shaking hands with Mr. Smith & Wesson. How can we become less of a "gun society"? Yes, that is the important question. How can we reduce the number of guns on the streets? (Some police departments have had a fair amount of success with gun buyback programs, for example.)

You know, I'm hearing two different messages all the time. Law enforcement officers all over the country are telling a different story than the Second Amendment right-wingers. The men and women who wear a badge say there are too many guns on the streets, and that's a big part of the crime problem in this country today.

So who's right? America's police chiefs or Charlton Heston?
