WorldCom Chief Not Entertaining Suitors
(03/07/01, 9:08 p.m. ET) Reuters
WorldCom Inc. chief executive Bernie Ebbers said Wednesday the voice and data services company has not held talks with any potential acquirers, quashing market speculation that it was eager for a buyer. Ebbers said that as a publicly traded company, WorldCom would have to consider any reasonable takeover offers, but he dismissed a report in The Wall Street Journal that said he would consider selling WorldCom (stock: WCOM) for $35 a share.
