>>US Bancorp Piper Jaffray analyst Ashok Kumar said he now believes PC unit shipments will likely tumble 20 percent in the first quarter from the fourth, meaning that unit shipments must rise a hefty 30 percent in the second half to generate growth. If not, it would be the first year in the history of the PC industry that the overall number of units shipped shrank.<<

sarmad, you ought to know that unit sales decrease is not necessary to crush everyone in the pc food chain. small growth can crush everyone b/c they all plan on 20-30% growth. good luck. i think you need it b/c the trend is shrinking eps and i don't see that trend changing while we work off this overhang of capacity created to support .bomb business models that never should have been.

<<I think pc sales will increase substantially in China, India and other places that are just now starting to use them. >>

Most of the population of mainland China are desperately poor. India has a huge middle class, but does their telecom system support widespread data /internet transmission?

I am always wary of the "oveseas will pick up the slack" argument- that's what the telcom equip makers were saying until just recently.
