>>He doesn't need a big space because he goes to see his clients in their space. All he needs is a decent car, suit and a cell phone. No overhead, it's what people like me dream about having.<<

That's me, more or less, except that as an ambulance chaser I've got litigation expenses as overhead. Number one expense is doctors as expert witnesses. Number two expense is court reporters for depositions. I have a hefty advertising expense, too. Other than that, no overhead to speak of at all, except office expenses which are negligible. Getting paid on a contingency sucks, except for when it pays off. When it pays off, it's the best deal in town.

>>What I have to face is having spent my whole career building a business that turns out to be manufacturing buggy whips. <<

I got into pre press doing separations in 1975. Doing separations digitally was the holy grail, and at the time there was no way on earth it would work. Did my stint in prepress, went to law school, needed to go back to prepress to earn money to pay off student loans so I could get admitted to the bar. In 1985, I got sucked into a relationship with a friend who inherited a printing business from his father. The return on investment was incredible.
