The federal government, Reps and Dems, are equally culpable as the tobacco industry. They've been feeding at the trough of high cigarette taxes for years, and that money has yet to be spent on the medical costs. It's just gone into the general budget. It should've gone into the Medicare and Medicaid funding.

If the American Cancer Society is correct in that the average smoker lives 15 years less than the non-smoker, then the federal government is probably making a big profit off of the smokers.

It looks like now you've decided to argue with yourself. Show me where I ever said, inferred, described, insinuated or otherwise stated anything close to "I take it you support encouraging our kids to smoke to their hearts content."

Is it your hope conservatives believe that way in order to justify the hatred you feel toward them? Do you make these kind of claims because you're delusional, confused, mistaken, or because you wish to lie. Which is it Rich?

Maybe we should all play posting games like that. I'll just make up things you said, and then see if you care to defend them.

Let's see...

So I suppose you believe women should be raped, since you defend Bill so vociferously. I see you believe children should have more and more needles implanted in their arms, since you support Bill and Hillary who let a convicted drug-pin go free.

The only thing I can figure is you are either a very young naive person, or a person who hasn't really thought beyond the 4.7 second nightly news sound bites for years.

Practically everyone in Congress is guilty of supporting to some degree the tobacco industry. The only one probably clean of the kick-backs is George Bush. Since he margined his political future in Texas, I doubt he got much involved with big tobacco. But I could be wrong. I certainly don't believe he went around bragging about running a tobacco farm, such as Al Gore did.

Be that as it may, tobacco is no where near the biggest threat to the health of our children. Drugs, violence and sexual diseases rank far higher in my book. Kids smoked in the school bathrooms when I was a teenager, and they probably smoke in the school bathroom today. Campaigns to educate children can be helpful, and we should encourage them. My kids get their education from us (their parents) at home.

If more parents stopped looking for the mommy government to educate the next generation, and quit blaming a bunch of politicians thousands of miles away, maybe they would take more responsibility for their own childrens' behavior. Then we would probably have less children smoking.

The government can't solve all these problems without severely infringing on our individual liberties. I, for one, would rather live in a more free society with social problems, then a fascist one which had no smokers.

When they get older, let's hope they quite the habit like millions of other adults. Including myself. (14 years and running)

dear dear dear richie, once again you words betray your stupidity. >>>So Michael, I care about our children and as opposed to the previous administration, the current one promotes smoking!

richie you have ZERO comprehension about what America is about.
Some use alcohol and kill themselves and other's. They do this by personal choice and the use is legal.

Some eat fatty foods and die much sooner. They do this by personal choice and it is legal.

Some chose not to exercise and die sooner. They do this by personal choice and it is legal.

Some chose to engage in unprotected consensual sex and die sooner. They do this by personal choice and it is legal.

Some chose to smoke and they die sooner. They do this by personal choice and it is legal.

What is the difference between any of the above and what is the same.

The ability to solve engineering or any problems is seeing how different things are the same and different.

The most dangerous things for children are the ideas of Vacant Liberal Minds. Replacing the ability to think and chose with stupid rhetoric is hazardous to life. Not making clear one's personal responsibility for ones actions is hazardous to life.

The TRULY TRULY stupid of this world try to create laws to remove personal choice and personal responsibility for activities with the goal of stopping stupid people from doing something stupid. The first principal of the democrat party is to stop stupid people from doing something stupid.

People are to stupid to spend their own money, the government knows better.
