Jay, thanks for the reassurance.

BTW, I am planning on upgrading my digital camera if I receive spousal consent
for the purchase. I am very attached to my Epson PhotoPC 850Z, and was
looking to step up to a 4.0+ megapixel camera with a movie mode with sound.
It seems like most of the digital camera manufacturers are holding the line
at 3.34 megapixels right now. I need the camera by mid-Summer so I may
just end up buying the Canon PowerShot G1. I would like to buy a Nikon, but
I found the 880 a bit too small for my hands. I hope that Nikon comes out
with a new series in follow-up to the 990/880 edition soon.

Does anyone here own the Canon G1 and how do they like it?

The reviews I have read have been good. I also learned that Canon is making
the optics for Sony, Olympus and Epson. I think the combination of
excellent optics and an excellent CCD are key to high resolution pics.
I also read the G1 can do 5 pics in rapid succession while writing to buffer.
That is a major improvement over my Epson and makes up for my handicap...

...a handful of ultra-slow SanDisk CompactFlash cards.

(Although the SNDK cards have never slowed me down a bit!)

Jay, re: "Aus, the day you have to apologize for cluttering the thread will be the day hell freezes over."

Amen.

Aus, the day you have to apologize for cluttering the thread will be the day hell freezes over

I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment, but that statement is one I'm not sure I understand. According to the classic description of hell, Dante's "Inferno", isn't the center of hell actually a giant block of ice?
