kholt: If you had sat through 50-plus bargaining sessions with the corporate suits, as I have, you would understand where I'm coming from. I could provide you with a detailed list of "management deceptions" regarding our pension plan overhaul that would have you saying: "Geez, those guys really tried to do that to the workers?! That's awful." (Others on this board have said same when I went into some detail via private messages.)

People like you who opine that "union members generally don't realize how much they're giving up" haven't been there in the trenches.

The fact that I pay $13 a week in union dues is small potatoes compared to the benefits I receive. For instance, union membership means that management cannot fire someone willy-nilly, but must have a very good reason to do so.

You and other pollyannas on this board operate under the false assumption that management acts ethically.

Nonsense. Management acts every way it can to maximize profits. And if that means stepping on some employees from time to time ... disrupting their lives and the lives of their family members ... well, that's all part of the game.

That, in a nutshell, is why we have unions.

God bless, and don't believe everything you read in the papers or on this board.
