I'm curious if this chip might be a special request for Unicom (and applicable for 3rd world applications in general, like India)? These are clearly markets thart Q is wise to address from a growth perspective....

I'm not sure about Unicom...it seemed like they were going to try and market CDMA as an upscale data capable technology. I dont have a good handle on how many people in China could afford a $250 1xrtt handset.

OTOH...this chipset definitely fits the profile for India. The only drawback for WLL in India is the monthly rental charge for the handset. I think they were looking at a 600 rupee ($13) dollar charge. Also, I dont think that data is going to play much of a role in India for quite a while. Those who have a need for data would likely buy a cellular phone (GSM) since they could also roam.
