<<selling at these prices
and made money last year?>>

JDSU, for example, cycled between ~$75 and ~$140 (adjusted) at least twice in 2000; working from my (sometimes faulty) memory. Depending on the basis (and the basis could have been established anytime prior to or during 2000), the gains could have been huge on a sale in 2000.

Selling at these prices is largely a different matter but, again, depends on the basis; could still be gains withsome stocks. Some are "forced" to sell at these prices to pay the tax on the 2000 gains.

Now, if only we could go back and rethink some of those LT holds ; )
