No need to argue with ME about the contributions of England. (Which wasn't the topic.)

My father came over in the 30s, I've been back a couple of times and will be back again.

Got to run now, but if you want somebody to run down England, don't look to me!

As for the historical 'what ifs', try going back more than 50 years. Try, say, where the US would be if the majority of British industrialism hadn't supported the Yankee side in 1860?

The British traded with the North. They also had trade with the south but that was limited by the North's blockade (not by British unwillingness to trade). If there was no trade with England from either the North or the South the North would have still had much greater resources to fight the war then the South.
