Dave, higher resolution or better lens? At this point, I'd be inclined to go for the 3+ mpixel resolution because it will give you better photos if (1) you expect to make a fair number of 8 x 10 or larger enlargements and (2) if you crop your photos so that only a small portion of the image is used for the final print. The upper limit for a decent image from a 2.1 mpixel camera is about 8 x 10 from the full frame. If you think you can wait a couple of months, given the condition of the economy and the probable reduction in sales growth for digital cameras, you will probably be able to get a good 3.1 mpixel camera AND a good lens for $500.
