I do not disagree with this, except that different sub-nets accrue to different sectors, and some folks may find that they are not in the right sector to benefit, even as the economy on average is OK. This is the whole premise of "hollow economy" debate occuring in many countries.

This discussion started when someone tried to make a good out of America owning foreign assets. My point was "this is not so, as most direct benefits out of the resulting revenue/cost go to the country where the employment and multiplier effect is". Now, foreigners own a lot of American assets as well. The net net is difficult to figure, and thus my comment about complicated systems at the end of this post ...
