Current top of the line Athlon already beats P4 and it is less expensive. P4 is not wine, it will not improve with age. It is an ugly young woman.

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. I disagree.

Joe, >P4 is not wine, it will not improve with age. It is an ugly young woman.

David Wong of UBS Warburg disagrees with you:

While we are very positive on AMD's new processors, we also think Intel's ramp
in Pentium 4 will lead to more competition. The Pentium 4 is based on the next
generation microprocessor architecture and has greater capabilities with
Internet applications. Intel is pushing hard to ramp production of the Pentium
4 on 0.13 micron process by the end of 2001 which will allow both lower cost
and higher speed operation. We think as all Pentium 4 production migrates to
the 0.13 micron, Intel will have a more powerful and cost competitive product.
In the meantime, Intel has introduced Pentium 4 running up to 1.5 GHz,
nominally faster than the Athlon that operates at up to 1.2 GHz. Intel plans
to have Pentium 4s available by the end or Q201 that will operate at 2 GHz. We
think the new Pentium 4 architecture will allow Intel to provide processors
that will operate at clock frequencies that will match or exceed that of AMD.
The chipsets currently available for the Pentium 4 only allow the Pentium 4 to
operate with Rambus memory. However by the second half of 2001 chipsets which
interface with DDR and SDRAM memory will also be available for the Pentium 4 we
believe, allowing for lower cost Pentium 4 systems. By the end of 2001 Intel
expects to be shipping as many Pentium 4 chips as Pentium 3 chips.

OT OT RE: "It is an ugly young woman."

No need to be sexist in derogatory comments. In fact, no need to discriminate against ugly people either.

But I loved your "Chimps too" joke. In this economy, I'll take that as a good thing. At this point, it's Intel+AMD vs. TheEconomy.
