I don't like the fact that he promised one thing and delivered another.

His handlers said the campaign promise was an error, that he didn't change his mind. I don't know whether that's better or worse--or even true.

I'm used to politicians promising one thing and delivering another to the point where it doesn't bother me much.

What concerned me more was the bragging that's been going on about how professional this White House is. I don't think undermining an agency administrator is very professional. He could at least have let her make the announcement so she could save a little face. Tacky. Very tacky.

There's been an undercurrent in the early days of this Administration about senior officials sticking with the Bush script. Usually when that gets publicity it's because there's some awkward power thing going on, which could work itself out but more often get uglier over time. Too early to tell yet. We shall see.
