Bernard re:GSPN "
Clearly it is inventory issue, not lack of end demand.
As I have mentioned before vendors panicked last year and overbought.
No questions there is some slowdown in DSL gears deployment in US which will last another few month, simply b/c carriers have to first connect customers to DSLAMs they already install before resuming aggressive deployment.
It is general message from carriers that they want to add subscribers more aggressively in first half of 2001 to get revenue stream.
Also ALA makes its own components and buys lots from TXN which did not indicated any weakness in DSL space.
Since AlA controls 54% of DSL market, it is difficult to say
what is really going on. One thing I noticed that months ago
Cisco (CC) stated they they lost some DSL market shares.....
``GlobeSpan has enjoyed success in winning designs with our customers over the past year which positions us as a
leading supplier of DSL solutions to the broadband communications equipment market. We are disappointed with the
present environment where customers have repeatedly requested revisions and cancellations to their orders to balance
their inventories which has caused us to lower expectations, but remain confident of our long-term growth prospects as
our customer demand stabilizes, improves and worldwide deployment continues. We expect to resume growth in the
second half of the year as our existing customers burn through their inventories, and new customers commence their ramp
in production, particularly in international markets,'' added Geday.

Bernard- VRTA just warned too. Ouch. Seems to me the ILECs are more to blame than data-CLECs for this latest round of DSL warnings. One does have to wonder when ALA will be hit. So far, they seem to be about the only exception to a DSL warning. -MikeM(From Florida)
